Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) Overview

Since 1970, the CUPPAD has been a designated an “economic development district" by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration (EDA). CUPPAD is involved in economic development planning and project development in response to the needs of local units within the district.

Activities

To maintain its designation CUPPAD prepares a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) report each year. The report provides statistical and demographic data of the six-county region, review of changes in the region's economy, goals and implementation strategies, and identification economic projects in the region. Projects listed in the CEDS are eligible for EDA grant funding. The CEDS document is reviewed and adopted by the CUPPAD Commission at the July meeting.
Every two years CUPPAD solicits from local units within the region economic development projects to be listed in the CEDS report. The list may be amended from time to time to permit the inclusion of additional projects. The list is used by CUPPAD to identify needs within the six-county area.
