Welcome to CUPPAD
Serving Local Governments for
Over 50 Years
The Central Upper Peninsula Planning & Development Regional Commission (CUPPAD) provides planning services, economic development services and multiple initiatives for six counties and 87 communities throughout the central Upper Peninsula.
As one of 14 regional planning commissions in the State of Michigan, CUPPAD was established in 1968 as a multi-county organization to pool resources for the assistance of local governments in the central Upper Peninsula.
CUPPAD works through a consultation process with local governments in Alger, Delta, Dickinson, Marquette, Menominee, and Schoolcraft Counties, Cities, Townships, and Villages. It is through this process that opportunities and cost effective solutions are identified to assure physical and economic growth for everyone!
Examples of services include general planning support in the areas of: grant writing, community surveys, land use planning, recreation planning, economic and community development, place making, transportation, hazard mitigation planning, mapping services, GIS, demographic information, and more. Through all of these services and initiatives, the CUPPAD is committed to making the Central U.P. as successful as possible and potential is realized.
CUPPAD is also the liaison between the United States Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration and our local communities. As such, CUPPAD is charged with the writing and updating of the Community Economic Development Strategy (CEDS), which is the first step for communities interested in obtaining EDA funds for their projects. In addition, CUPPAD is the regional clearinghouse for various federal projects taking place in the central Upper Peninsula helping to ensure viable public input is available for regionally significant community development initiatives.
CUPPAD’s staff provides both technical and advisory services as well as partnering with local, regional, state, and/or national planning agencies and organizations to provide a comprehensive approach to addressing local planning issues.
CUPPAD is here to strengthen the capacity of the local units of government in the Central U.P. Please contact us today if we can be of assistance to you.
